DSHI benefit for DHOAS-eligible members

Eligible members of both the Permanent Forces and the Reserves are able to access the Defence Service Homes Insurance Scheme (DSHIS) as an additional benefit.

DSHIS is an Australian Government scheme administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. For nearly a century, DSHIS has estabilshed a strong reputation in the service community for client care and quality at an economical price.

Members do not have to hold a DHOAS subsidy certificate or home loan to purchase the insurance cover, they need only to meet the eligibility requirements of DHOAS.

It is not a requirement for members to take out insurance with DSHI to participate in DHOAS.

Insurance options

DSHIS offers home and contents insurance, as well as a range of other covers.

The home insurance represents good value, and policyholders can purchase cover for any home they own, including holiday and rental homes. It includes flood as well as storm damage to fences, which is not usually included under home insurance policies. Accidental damage of up to $5000 is also automatically included.

The full range of insurances include:

  • Home and contents insurance
  • Comprehensive cover for cars, caravans and motorcycles
  • Private Pleasure Craft Insurance
  • Residential Landlord Liability Insurance
  • Compulsory Third Party
